- Two points that may be helpful:
-
- 1. The support of 33.6 is a hardware issue. If you have two 33.6 kbps
- modems, and a wonderful telephone line, they will connect at 33.6 as
- long as you have not told them to connect at a lower speed. In
- reality, "your mileage will vary", and the actual benefit I've seen
- from the upgrade, when connecting to another USR 33.6 modem, is
- consistent 28.8 connects. To the best of my knowledge (and review of
- the AT commands) you don't need to do anything to Windows to enable
- the hardware to work. I'm assuming you've set up the serial
- communications to run at 115.2 kbps.
-
- 2. However if you want Win95 to REPORT faster connection speeds, then
- you need to update the .inf. I tried the .inf file from the web page
- and it destroyed my ability to use the modem. Then I downloaded the
- "same" file (but with a different byte count) from the USR BBS, and it
- installed fine. So I suggest calling USR's BBS at 847-982-5092, and
- downloading Mdmusrsp.inf.
-
- Good luck....
